Every fault below comes from real call-outs across Durban and surrounding areas. Some have a quick check you can try yourself before booking anyone — where that's true, we say so. When a visit is needed, the diagnosis is done with a signal meter, quoted before work starts, and covered by our 6-month workmanship warranty. New to this part? Start with the television component guide.
1. Wrong HDMI input selected
What you'll see: "No Signal" on screen while the decoder plays happily; often after someone used the TV for something else.
Why it happens: The TV is listening to a different input than the one the decoder feeds.
How we fix it: Source/Input button, select the decoder's HDMI. We check this first on every call — free — because charging a call-out for it would be theft with extra steps.
2. Damaged or worn TV HDMI port
What you'll see: Picture that flickers when the cable moves, works on some days, or needs the plug held at an angle.
Why it happens: Years of plugging cycles, cable weight on a wall-mounted set, or a sideways yank.
How we fix it: Move to a spare HDMI port as the immediate fix; board-level port repair is quoted honestly against the TV's value. Strain relief prevents the repeat.
3. HDCP compatibility issue
What you'll see: Blank or flashing screen on the DStv input, sometimes with an HDCP error message; other inputs fine.
Why it happens: The copy-protection handshake between decoder and TV failing — older panels, AV receivers and splitters in the path are common triggers.
How we fix it: Power-sequence reset, certified cable, and decoder output settings matched to the display. Persistent cases are configuration puzzles we solve on-site, not hardware failures.
4. Audio but no video, or video with no sound
What you'll see: One half of the experience missing on the DStv input.
Why it happens: Resolution set beyond the panel's ability, audio format mismatch (e.g. a soundbar in the chain), or a failing cable.
How we fix it: Settings first — output resolution and audio format stepped down to what the chain supports — then cable substitution. Almost always a no-parts fix.
5. Poorly mounted TV (DIY bracket risks)
What you'll see: A TV that tilts, a bracket pulling from the wall, cables dangling and stressing the ports.
Why it happens: Undersized brackets, wrong anchors for the wall type, or a mount positioned without stud/masonry awareness.
How we fix it: Re-mounting on a correctly rated bracket with anchors matched to the substrate, cables concealed and strain-relieved. Done before gravity files its complaint, ideally.
Symptom doesn't match any of these?
Faults overlap — a "television problem" is sometimes another link in the chain wearing a disguise. Describe what your system is doing on +27 69 423 8290 (or WhatsApp a photo of the error screen) and we'll tell you which component it actually sounds like, free, before anything is booked.
